Engineering Open House (EOH) will be held on April 5 - 6, 2024. One of the events this year is a Mini Research Fair where current undergraduate and graduate students from engineering labs across campus will have the chance to present their research at a poster session. The only requirement is that the student is working in a lab within the Grainger College of Engineering. The event is a great opportunity to practice presenting your research as well as to share your work with EOH participants. The research fair will be on Friday, April 5, 3-4PM in CIF room 3025. Applications Due April 15 The BHW Group is offering academic scholarships to women in STEM. Women pursuing an undergraduate or master's degree and majoring in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics during the 2024-2025 school year are eligible to apply for the $3000 scholarship. Application Due March 15 Iowa State University is still accepting applications to their NSF REU Summer Program for Interdisciplinary Research and Education-Emerging Interface Technologies (SPIRE-EIT). This program is designed to nurture the next generation of innovative minds by providing an environment where students can explore cutting-edge technological solutions to real-world challenges. Research topics vary each summer. Program Dates: May 28 - August 3 In this program, you will be placed onto a research team of three REU interns. Each team is led by a VRAC faculty member and supported by a dedicated graduate student mentor. This structure ensures that you receive personalized guidance and mentorship while working on impactful research projects. These projects will encompass various aspects of human-computer interaction, where you will have the chance to explore novel interfaces, immersive technologies, and interactive experiences that could shape the future of technology. Application Due April 1 The Boston University (BU) Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) NSF REU Program is open to non-BU students who are rising juniors or rising seniors. and wish to conduct research in areas related to biology and the control of gene expression for biological outcomes. Successful applicants will be provided a stipend, on-campus housing, weekly enrichment activities, social events, and an October trip to present findings at the BU Undergraduate Research Symposium. Application Due April 1 The National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Site: Cyberinfrastructure (CI) Research for Social Change is engaging 10 undergraduate students each summer for nine weeks in solving real-world problems of national relevance, teaching them to not only be critical thinkers, but to be creative and reflective as well. Students gain skills in advanced programming and problem solving and use the CI to conduct cutting-edge research in engineering, science, and computational medicine. Research projects emphasize advanced computing as a tool to power discoveries that will impact social change for future generations. Program Dates : June 3 - August 2 Successful applicants will be provided a $6300 stipend, housing (+ meal card) at The University of Texas at Austin, travel arrangements by TACC, and travel grants to present research at an annual conference.

UNDERGRADUATE ASSISTANTS NEEDED

NSF REU ON AGILE COMPILER FRAMEWORK Apply ASAP Prof. Charith Mendis, assistant professor in computer science, is seeking undergraduate students to do research this summer 2024. The project will focus on compliers, programming languages, hardware accelerators, and machine learning. The opportunity is a research experience for undergraduates (REU) with support from The Grainger College of Engineering Illinois Scholars Undergraduate Research (ISUR) program. Eligibility - Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Must be a computer science major
- Preferably rising juniors or seniors
- Women and students from underrepresented groups in STEM are encouraged to apply.
Participation in the research as an REU student entails two (2) phases. The first phase will be the educational phase wherein students will learn about the topic of interest and build their background knowledge. It will include reading relevant literature, developing skills needed for the research, and identifying a potential research project. The second phase will be the research phase wherein students will work on a research project. Students will work closely with Prof. Mendis and will receive a summer research scholarship. They will also participate in weekly summer research seminars with other summer research program participants.
